Is John Noe Smarter Than You?

John Noe has been a staple within the hyperpreterist movement.  He came onto the scene when Ed Stevens helped him publish "Beyond the Endtimes: The Rest of... the Greatest Story Ever Told" in 1999.  However, Noe's earlier but less known book was published a year before: "Top Ten Misconceptions about Jesus’ Second Coming and the End Times" Besides Partial-Preterist Gary DeMar's books which many "Full Preterists" cite as their gateway into the movement, Noe's books were some of the earliest offerings that an aspiring hyperpreterist could obtain.

Noe went on to pen other hyperpreterist books such as:

  • Shattering the ‘Left Behind’ Delusion - 2000
  • The Israel Illusion: 13 Popular Misconceptions about This Modern-day Nation and Its Role in Bible Prophecy - 2000
  • Dead In Their Tracks: Stopping the Liberal/Skeptic Attack on the Bible - 2001

Noe has also published a host of papers and booklets, almost all which have the same noticeable theme as his books.  Some of those titles are:

  • “Restoring the Kingdom-of-God Worldview to the Church and the World” (Step #1)
  • “12 Most Common Mistakes People Make About Bible Prophecy and the End Times”
  • “The Solution to the Problem of the End Times”

No matter where you come down on the issue of "Full Preterism", the theme of Noe's material is undeniable -- he thinks he is smarter than you.  Apparently Noe, is one of the few who knows the "rest of the story". He is perhaps the only one who can explain the "top ten misconceptions" about Jesus' Second Coming and the Endtimes. He is able to "shatter delusions". He can see through "illusions" and explain the "13 misconceptions" about modern Israel. He may be the only one who can "restore the kingdom-of-God worldview to the Church and the World".  And if his ability to explain the "top ten misconceptions" about Jesus' Second Coming and Endtimes wasn't enough; it is good that he came out with the "12 most common mistakes people make" about Bible prophecy and the Endtimes.  And finally, he has THE solution to the problem of the Endtimes.

Noe, who lives in Indianapolis, the same city where I reside periodically sends me announcements of his activities. His latest, sent to me on July 12, 2012 was to promote a new book he is working on.  Some of the promoting sentences for this book are as follows:

  • "Most people today, remain unaware and uninformed..."
  • "Those traditional views are simply out-of-date and inadequate."
Noe remains true to his pattern; people are stupid and he is here to educate you idiots.
Noe, like many other hyperpreterists sees himself as a type of modern day Martin Luther (not the black guy). In reality, Noe is more like a modern day Andreas Karlstadt or perhaps even more like a Thomas Muntzer.

These men also thought they were smarter than everyone else.  It's a shame, because I've met Noe several times in person; even a couple times joined him and group in a Bible study breakfast.  He has since lost most favor among the "greater" Full Preterist movement. Noe even sometimes tries to claim he isn't a Full Preterist.

This is what happens when a person has no peers (thinks they are in a league by themselves); they have no accountability that keeps them from going off the deep end.  Noe, has for years been making it up as he goes with no restraining hand of people who might be able to tell him he is wrong here or there. Stevens might have offered that earlier on, but that relationship is no longer what it used to be.

I expect, Noe will continue to produce books, papers, and other material that are simply arrogant and condescending diatribes telling everyone else how "unaware" and "uninformed" they are compared to the "greater" John Noe.

Dear Roderick Edwards:

In response to your diatribe against me and my supposed lack of accountability, arrogance, and condenscending attitude of and toward others, etc.—as posted on your “The UnPreterist” blogspot on July 12, 2012—I will only address two issues that you raised.

Issue #1: “no accountability.” How do you know? You don’t hang out with me, fellowship with me, attend any of my Bible studies, or go to church with me. And you haven’t even asked me or others the question: “Who are you accountable to?” To me, your ad hominem accusation here is not only irresponsible; it’s the height of arrogance on your part.

Issue #2: “Noe remains true to his pattern; people are stupid and he is here to educate you idiots.” Are you quoting me? Or is this merely your opinion? Personally, I find this suggestion offensive, untrue, and a complete misrepresentation of my character, ethics, and motives.

Roderick, I believe the Lord will hold you accountable for these (and other) unfounded, unsubstantiated, careless, and reckless charges against a fellow Christian.

I further believe He will hold me accountable, as well, for how I respond to you and your hostile and character assassination attack.

Please be further advised that, yes, I do believe the Lord has specially gifted, enabled, and called me to do what I have been, am, and will continue doing. Many others with whom I am accountable to today fully agree and are looking forward to more books coming out over the next several years.

For your further information, ten years ago I submitted my developing end-time views to the highest level of scholarly accountability—a Ph.D. dissertation committee, which was comprised of three futurist premillennialists. Two years later, they concurred with my scholarly presentation and recognized the value of my completed, successfully defended, and 400-plus-page dissertation as being a contribution to knowledge in its field. Since then, I’ve increased and enhanced both the scope and depth of my research, study, and writings, while also expanding my personal accountabilities.

Therefore, and in the name of Jesus, I call you to repent of your false accusations and ad hominem attack against me and my works, and to publish a retraction. If you refuse, however, you have already given me something far more valuable. You have increased my reward in heaven (Matt. 5:11-12). For that, I will be eternally grateful.

Obviously, I could have said more. But I believe this is enough.

Blessings,

John Noe, Ph.D.

Thanks for taking the time to interact with this John. However, -- and I'll address this in more detail later -- you fail to interact with the main issue; WHY ARE MOST OF YOUR BOOK TITLES SUCH THAT CLAIM OUTRIGHT OR IMPLY OTHER PEOPLE ARE "UNAWARE" OR "UNINFORMED"? There has been no ad hom in my comments. I did not "attack your person". You may very well be a fine husband and father and such -- that is not at issue. What is at issue is that almost all of your writings claim or imply other people just aren't as smart as you.

After writing this post and having some back and forth emails with John Noe, he increasingly tried to say it was just "my take" or opinion that his book/paper titles are condescending. I continually restated the actual titles of his material and that it is not "my take" but a FACT that the titles impune a person's intelligence. Noe then wanted me to meet him and his groupies in person to state again what I have already stated here in public. I'm not certain what purpose he thinks that will serve. Maybe he just wants to thrash "meanie Roderick" before his groupies???

All this doesn't change the FACT that Noe thinks most other people are stupid. I even took a poll of about 10 people who don't know Noe and asked them what they think a person means by saying other people are "uninformed", "unaware","believing delusions", "believing illusions", and "believing mistakes" -- All 10 people concluded that the person is saying that people aren't too smart.

Being uninformed, unaware, and holding to mistaken ideas or beliefs does not make someone stupid or not to smart. Being ignorant of some subject does not make you stupid. Being ignorant means you just need to learn a few things, not that you are incapable of learning or are a moron.

No, Noe thinks, and is correct, most people are uninformed about many things.
